Welcoming Families into the Kitchen:
BEN’S BEGINNERS™ Annual Cooking Contest
In December, Mars Food’s UNCLE BEN’S® Brand announced the five national winners of its fourth annual Ben’s Beginners™ Cooking Contest in the United States. The Ben’s Beginners™ movement aims to bring families together in the kitchen. "Learning to cook at a young age is as essential as learning to read and write," said Lara McCauley, vice president of Corporate Affairs, Mars Food North America.
This year, the brand kicked off the contest with a “Dream Kitchen,” set in New York City, and concluded with a trip to the hometown of each winning contestant where they celebrated with Brand representatives and key figures in each of their respective cities.
To enter the contest, families were asked to submit a short video of themselves cooking a rice-based dish and exemplifying the importance of cooking together. The contest received submissions from hundreds of families around the U.S. with children ranging in age from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Winners received a $30,000 school cafeteria makeover and a $15,000 cash prize for their families.
The five grand prize events were hosted in December in Kansas, Texas, Colorado, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Prominent legislators and community figures in each respective state recognized the events and commended the winners.
